Sometimes if the circumstances warrant it, I will sell a finished champion if I have decided not to use them in my breeding program. In other cases I will co-own a dog with a family who agrees to let me show the dog, and/or use that dog in my breeding program in the future. In the case of a handsome male, that might mean a week or two away from home when he's used at stud. In the case of a lovely female, it means up to two and a half months away from home - much harder on the family. Obviously these families must live convenient to Ashcroft to allow this kind of arrangement, but everyone benefits when I can do this. It makes room for younger dogs at Ashcroft, allows me to use the dogs in my breeding program, and provides the dog with a wonderful family where they will be the king or queen of the house, rather than one of many here... The new owners benefit from a lovely, healthy dog, and a solid relationship with a breeder willing to help them with any aspect of the care of their dog. Some of the dogs living nearby in these types of arrangements are below. These are more than "pet homes", these folks are Ashcroft Family.

I had to laugh when I got a hotel room. Before I dragged in the crate into the hotel room Tugger jumped on the bed and plopped himself down. I laughed and he and I slept together and he was snug against me the whole night!
The next day we arrived at my sister Virginia's house who has eight dogs and my niece who is 10. Tug is a great hit with her whole family. My brother in law tried to trade their poodle for Tug whom he loved!!
Tug refuses to leave my side. He is now eating and drinking. We went on a huge hike in the woods for about two hours! Tug loved it!!! We have plenty of pictures. Today on the Bras Dor lakes (Nova Scotia) where my uncle lives Tug was watching the waves and kept jumping back and forth. He was having so much fun and I heard him bark for the first time at the waves. I got some great pics. Tug started playing with the duck you gave him so I feel he is settling in with me. My mom thought he looked like a little lamb. I told her he does but he also has a heart of a lion. - Daniel
